Previously, bots were specially set up for this, they either created profiles on forums with the target site in the signature, or wrote something on the forum, linking dots to the target site. It is believed that now this does not work, because bots no longer transmit PR through such links.

The scheme is very old when you leave some comments on the forum, search robots eventually add them as backlinks, because you have a link to your site in the user description. It used to be very popular to create posts with a backlink to a page to increase the link mass. But if you go too far with this amount, there may be an opposite effect when the site goes down.

This is an old method of getting backlinks. Users should not use this trick to start spamming the forum with random comments just to get multiple backlinks.

Getting backlink from Forums is an Old link building trick that these days is not very helpful for link juice,

Beyond 1 backlink to a particular link/page, additional backlinks to the same link do not add any SEO benefit. So, it's good to have 600 backlinks but 599 would not be useful. Link diversity is important.
